The Skinny

The Nanobébé Duet is a diaper bag and breast pump bag with multiple levels. It comes with a small cooler, ice pack, and changing pad. The versatile accessories and unique organization system make this a bag that can be useful for a variety of purposes. We like to use the upper compartment for baby items and the lower for mom items, but the possibilities are endless. Unfortunately, the separation also means that the Duet is unable to fit either a laptop or a Spectra pump, which may be a deal-breaker for some. In the end, the high-quality materials look great and feel as though they will last for years. Check out how it compares to the competition in our article on the best breast pump bags.

Our Analysis and Test Results

Nanobébé started when two dads collaborated with a team of pediatricians, lactation consultants, and biomedical engineers to create baby products that put health first. Starting with their unique bottle design, their line of products that followed are meant to ease the feeding process, no matter if you are pumping, breastfeeding, or formula feeding.

Ease of Use

Perhaps one of the biggest perks of this bag is the dual-level organization. An upper, dome-shaped compartment opens up to a surplus of pockets and pouches to organize all the bits and bobs you have. The included changing pad has pockets on the backside to store wipes and a few extra diapers if need be, and it folds up and slips into a nook on one side. The bottom compartment opens by way of a zipper on the side of the bag. It has removable dividers that keep your breast pump and parts separate and organized. Our one complaint about this system is that the zipper does not reach the bag's entire width. The smaller opening can make it a bit more difficult to access the bottom pocket contents, but if you plan to keep your pump in the bag during use, this should only be a one time issue.

A smaller sized "mom pocket" on the outside of the bag is hand for essential items such as a phone or wallet.

Unfortunately, the top pocket of the Duet is not large enough to accommodate a laptop, and the bottom pocket is too shallow to hold the popular Spectra pump. If you are using a flatter or slightly smaller pump, the pocket is perfect. A small pocket on the outside of the bag is ideal for a few small items such as a phone and lip balm. The additional cooler is a welcome accessory for storing expressed milk.

Quality

We are impressed by the Duet bag's quality, especially compared to other bags in this price range. The tote is constructed from an eyecatching combination of durable, water-resistant fabric and thick faux leather. The hardware is substantial, and we love the double zippers on all openings. The fabric has enough stiffness that the bag holds its shape well, even if it is not full. The bag's bottom does not have feet to keep it up off surfaces, but we think the material is durable enough to handle it.

Weight and Bulk

For such a large tote, the Duet is designed to distribute the weight of its contents evenly, making carrying a full load much less of a chore. Even when packed full, it keeps its narrow profile and easily fits under the arm for a shoulder carry position. If you prefer a cross-body carry, a longer strap is included. The tote handles are thick and rounded and will not cut into the should while carrying. The bag itself is on the heavier end of the scale, weighing in at 2.4 lbs. It does not compress easily and will not fold down to fit in tight spaces while traveling.

The Duet comes with stroller attachment straps to hook the bag onto your stroller. We DO NOT RECOMMEND using these as it may create a back-tip hazard if too much weight is placed on the rear of the stroller.

Style

In terms of style, the Duet is simple and classic. The most common complaint parents have is that the bag is only available in the dark grey color pictured. Otherwise, we love the bag's modern design and feel that it will fit well in any wardrobe. The subtle style is not necessarily flashy or eye-catching, but it is easily disguisable and not obviously a breast pump tote. The faux leather details add a touch of elegance to the heather grey fabric. The whole thing is easy to wipe down to avoid stains from spills.

Conclusion

The Nanobébé Duet is a pleasant surprise in the realm of breast pump bags. The reasonable cost and quality construction are two things that can often be mutually exclusive, so we are happy to find a bag that has both. We love the dual-level organization system, as it makes digging through the tote much less of a hassle, and the numerous pockets offer a perfect place for everything. However, the drawback of not being large enough to fit a Spectra pump or a laptop may be a dealbreaker for some people. If you value top-notch ease of use, don't own a Spectra, and don't plan to bring a laptop with you, the Duet may be the ideal bag for you.
