The Skinny

The ALVABABY One Size Pocket fits babies weighing 7 to 33 lbs. Compared to the cloth diaper competition, the ALVABABY didn't impress much, falling below average in all of our tests. We don't think it provides enough functionality and absorbency to deserve a spot in your diaper stash. If cost is a driving force in your search for cloth diapers, other contenders deliver better performances at affordable prices.

Bottom Line This pocket diaper struggles to perform, making it one you can pass onIdeal for use in on-the-go cloth diapering, with a simple set up and cleaning routine, but the liner is free floating and single gussetA pocket-style diaper with notable absorbency but otherwise basic and difficult to adjustAn inexpensive set of pocket diapers to kick off cloth diapering, but it isn't the most absorbentWith an overall poor performance, it's hard for us to list any positives

Our Analysis and Test Results

Inspired by the world of cloth diapers, particularly the versatility of cloth and the actuality that expense can hinder parents' ability to afford diapers, ALVABABY, a cloth diapering company, began in 2010. They offer affordable diapers in various prints, plus other baby-related products.

Honestly, it's a struggle for us to detail likes about this diaper. The exterior is soft, we experienced no leaks during testing, and it has a double row of waist snaps that feel secure. If you're interested in other inserts, ALVABABY offers a few for an additional cost, so you can stuff this pocket diaper with any insert you choose.

Dislikes

A pocket diaper requires stuffing, which some users don't enjoy. To make matters worse, the elastic around the ALVABABY's pocket opening creates a tight space. Our tester's long sleeve repeatedly caught on the pocket opening when assembling this diaper. Therefore, stuffing this diaper, especially for those with big hands, may not enjoy this diaper compared to other pocket diapers with larger pockets.

We did not experience a satisfactory fit with the ALVABABY. The front portion of the waist was a little loose in our tests using a six-month-old who was 15 lbs. The elastic also sits tighter around the legs, and while a snug fit helps reduce the potential for leaks, it didn't seem comfortable.

The pocket on the ALVABABY is tight and small.

The ALVABABY doesn't have a convex scoop design, which we prefer.

Absorbency

The ALVABABY scored below average in our absorbency tests. Its filter paper result showed high saturation, suggesting it may be more bothersome than helpful in the absorbency department.

Microfiber is known for exceptional wicking and speedy absorption, and during the absorbency tests, the ALVABABY did absorb the mock urine quickly. However, liquid immediately ran into the gussets, and they were soaked. While they contained the mock urine, we think additional saturation may pose a challenge for this diaper.

We value diapers with a scoop design, meaning it lays more convex than concave, which helps reduce the amount of liquid that flows to the sides. Unfortunately, the ALVABABY lays flat, which is why the gussets experience a concentration of saturation.

Should You Buy the ALVABABY One-Size Pocket?

The ALVABABY's price tag may catch your attention, especially if you're on a budget. But, we believe that diapering your baby can be enjoyable and easy with a good cloth diaper system. There are better-scoring yet affordable options in the lineup, so we think you're better off saving your money and investing in one of those options.

What Other Cloth Diapers Should You Consider?

Among the competition, another economical option includes the Flip with Stay Dry Insert. It's a hybrid system that does well across the board. Otherwise, consider the Rumparooz Pocket, a top-performing diaper with excellent absorbency, fit, and ease of use.
