The Skinny

The Momcozy S9 Wearable Breast Pump offers the convenience of portability with its battery-powered operation and lightweight design, making it one to consider for pump sessions on the go. We appreciate its soft silicone cups for added comfort. However, it has some downsides, including potential power reduction over time, inconsistent latch and milk expression, and a slightly whiny tone. The assembly can be finicky. This pump didn't deliver a solid performance, as it had some weak points. We think it's less efficient than some contenders, and with other reportable options in the breast pump review, we believe you can pass on this option for one of those.

Bottom Line A pump for those who prioritize portability, but it may fall short in terms of efficiencyDespite occasional reports of strong suction, this portable pump provides portability and efficient milk expressionOffering simplicity and convenience, this affordable and portable choice performs well in our testsA portable option for on-the-go moms or those who don't frequently pump, though it does demand more effort compared to electric pumpsA cost-effective option designed for passive letdown pumping to collect milk or provide relief from breast engorgement

Performance Comparison

Efficiency

This pump delivered an average of 0.20 oz of milk per minute, resulting in a total of 3.75 - 4.3 oz during a 20-minute pumping session. Some users have reported concerns about a potential decrease in power over time, although we didn't encounter this during our testing.

But, it wasn't all smooth sailing for this pump. Our tester found this pump less enjoyable to use, experiencing lower output and efficiency. It seemed like she couldn't quite empty her breasts as effectively as she'd hoped. On top of that, the pump struggled to maintain a consistent latch. Sometimes, we noticed the nipple being pulled without a steady stream of milk flowing into the bottle.

As for suction strength, we measured 230 mmHg at maximum intensity level, falling a bit short of the manufacturer's claims of 280 mmHg. While our reading wasn't too far off, it still didn't quite match the manufacturer's specifications.

Comfort

For something that's meant to be worn inside a bar, the Momcozy is on the bulky side. It comes with a 24 mm flange size. It offers two modes, massage and expression, and each mode has 5 adjustable suction levels. This flexibility lets you customize your pumping sessions.

The entire cup is constructed from soft silicone, which is a nice feature in comparison to rigid plastic. You won't need a specific pumping bra with this pump, but it will likely stick out of your bra. It's also comfortable to use with a tank top. We did notice that synchronization between the pumps can be finicky to achieve. While it's not uncomfortable, it can feel a bit odd when they differ in timing.

Ease of Use

We took into consideration the product's user interface and functionality, aspects we believe impact overall user experience. If the ease of use score was solely based on simplicity of operation, this product's score might be higher. However, we experienced issues during testing, such as leaky cups and seals, leading to a lower score in this metric.

We appreciate the product's user manual, which includes helpful visuals. It's not as in-depth as some contenders, but easy to understand and follow. Navigating the user interface is straightforward. It has four buttons on each pump connector: massage mode, expression mode, power levels, and suction strength. While it lacks a timer, the pump settings are easy to adjust, and you can cycle through the suction strength levels to select what works best. It will also automatically shut off at 20 minutes.

Assembling the Momcozy is a more involved task.

With the Momcozy S9, you will need to pack bottles with the pump unless you plan on pumping and dumping.

A few challenges did impact the pump's score. We noticed that you can't see how much you have pumped while wearing and pumping with this pump. When assembling the pump, it takes a lot of effort to make sure everything is connected securely. If misaligned, the pump can detach from the base, or it can impact milk extraction. While testing, we experienced both these issues. It's also important to pay close attention when pouring milk from the collection containers, as spills can happen.

The Momcozy is incredibly portable and easy to stash in a purse or tote bag.

Portability

The Momcozy is more portable than some. It's designed to be worn in your bra and powered by a rechargeable battery that can provide up to 1.2 hours of use on a single charge. The pump weighs just 0.5 lbs, and it's tube-free. This makes transporting it a breeze.

The Momcozy provides a convenient tube-free pumping experience. While the interface is user-friendly, it lacks a timer or a feature to track session details, which could be a downside for those who value these functions.

Remember that both pumps will need to be charged. Also, you'll need to pack bottles unless you plan on pumping and discarding the milk. While it operates quietly, it has a slightly whiny tone, particularly at higher power levels.

Hygiene

This pump has a closed system, ensuring hygiene. Cleaning the components is straightforward, and you can do it either by hand or bottle brush. However, the trickiest part is the assembly, as parts must be aligned appropriately for functionality. While the task may be somewhat tedious, it's not overly challenging, and with practice, you get used to the process.

Should You Buy the Momcozy S9 Wearable Breast Pump?

If you appreciate portability and tube-free pumping, the Momcozy S9 Wearable Breast Pump is an all-in-one breast pump that's budget-friendly and ready for on-the-go pumping. It doesn't require an app, which may be great for those who prefer a less techy product. However, you must be ready for the learning curve associated with the assembly process to minimize the chance of leaking, and overall, we don't think it is the best wearable in the bunch.

What Other Breast Pumps Should You Consider?

If you want the best portable option you can wear discretely, then the Elvie Stride stands out. It features an intuitive app to control the pump remotely, and it logs valuable information. It also has a quiet motor, making it more discreet. While it isn't the most efficient of the pumps, moms who want the freedom of daily living while pumping love this pump and think the trade-off and higher price are worth it. Alternatively, if you need portability but not necessarily hidden pumping, the Baby Buddha allows freedom of movement and a budget-friendly price. While it isn't a hidden collection system as it comes, it can be paired with other cups for more options.
