The Skinny

The Safety 1st Crystal Clear was discontinued in 2019.
REASONS TO BUY
Inexpensive
2 parent version available for low-price
Easy to use
REASONS TO AVOID
Nearly the worst range and sound clarity of monitors we tested
The Safety 1st Crystal Clear monitor is one of the least expensive monitors we tested. It is available with 1 parent unit for street price less than $30, or 2 parent units for about $35. It is very simple to use. Unfortunately, it also suffered from very poor range and disappointing sound clarity. More susceptible to static than most monitors we tested, this monitor may cost you lost sleep for the benefit of low purchase price. We advise caution. There are better monitors out there for reasonable prices.

Our Analysis and Test Results

Before you buy this monitor you need to consider the cost of losing sleep due to range or static interference issues. While the price is tempting, the downside is real.

Likes

A bargain price. Could not be easier to use.

Dislikes

Very poor range and sound clarity. More susceptible to static interference from electronic devices or other monitors than most monitors in our tests.

No rechargeable batteries, no sound activation feature.

Conclusion

There are better monitors out there for the similar price or not much more. Think of your monitor as a key investment in your ability to sleep over the next few years. There are better options out there.
