The Skinny

In our opinion this pillow has a nice concept with its full wrap around shape that provides both back and arm support, however it is actually not too easy to use and quite difficult to clean. If you're looking for a pillow that can support you anywhere you may want to nurse and fit your changing body, we recommend the My Brest Friend Deluxe over the original.

Our Analysis and Test Results

Nursing Comfort

Both the My Brest Friend Deluxe and original scored a 9 of 10 on nursing comfort thanks to the support they offer.

The foam base maintains its structure over time and allows both arms and baby to rest peacefully during nursing. A unique feature of both the My Brest Friend and My Brest Friend Deluxe are two bumps on the top of the foam that is presumably to add support for baby's head. In our opinion, these serve no purpose and only made feeding more difficult.

Ease of Use

The My Breast Friend pillows are nursing pillows that can fit just about any woman at any stage in their post-partum period. The buckle system helps to tighten the pillow close to the body to help minimize space for baby to slip into as well as maximize support for both you and baby. The buckle is especially nice because you don't have to struggle to remove the pillow before carrying baby to their crib. The wide surface of the original, measuring at 9inches is great for holding baby during both feeding and burping.

Ease of Cleaning

The My Breast Friend is very difficult to clean. The cover, although a nice 100% cotton fabric, is actually a poor choice for a nursing pillow because it soaks up any and all spills.

Side by side comparisons of the newer My Brest Friend Deluxe (bottom) and the My Brest Friend (top). Both use large buckle systems to latch the pillow in place, however the Velcro on the newer Deluxe makes putting on and taking off the pillow and one-handed job. The original uses 100% cotton fabric which at times felt stiff while the deluxe has a more plush cover that beads up moisture more successfully.

This can leave the fabric smelly and may cause the liquid to leak through to the foam, which cannot be cleaned. The cover is machine washable but unfortunately must be laid flat to dry which means you most likely will not be able to use the pillow for at least one feeding while it's being cleaned. Putting the pillow back together again is quite difficult because the cotton fabric does not stretch nicely over the very still foam base and added another 5:05 to the cleaning process.

Both the My Brest Friend Deluxe and My Brest Friend Original scored a 9 of 10 on support. The foam base does not lose its structure with use and continues to allow both of mom's arms and baby to rest comfortably while nursing. My Breast Friend pillows are highly versatile nursing pillows and we found that they will fit well no matter where in your postpartum journey you are. We appreciate the adjustable buckle system as it allows you to keep the pillow close to the body preventing the gap that baby could slip into as well as enhancing overall support.

It also allows you to carry baby to the crib without the hassle of dealing with the pillow first. The wide surface of the original, measuring at 20" is great for holding baby during both feeding and burping.

Dislikes

The pillow does take some time to get on and off due to its one buckle system, particularly if you are trying to do it with baby in hand. The buckle is only on the right-hand side of the pillow making it even harder for left-handed women. Thankfully the My Brest Friend Deluxe alleviated this problem with the addition of Velcro.

Additionally, the My Breast Friend is not easy to clean. Although the cover is removable, the 100% cotton fabric is not the best option for a nursing pillow because it soaks up spills. This leaves the fabric smelly in between washes and allows the liquid to leak through and reach the foam, which cannot be cleaned. While the cover can be washed in the machine, it must be laid flat to dry, which can take up to a day and means you will either have to purchase an extra cover or just not use the pillow during this time. Putting the cover back on the pillow is quite the task. The case has no stretch and so doesn't always lay nicely over the very stiff foam base. This step added another 5:05 to the overall time of the cleaning process. Both the My Brest Friend and My Brest Friend Deluxe have two bumps on the top of the pillow that we assume are there to add an extra level of support for baby's head, however, we found that they mostly got in the way while feeding.

Conclusion

If you're looking for a pillow with a sturdy base and adjustable size, spend a little bit extra for the My Brest Friend Deluxe or the more plush Boppy Nursing Pillow.
